CAS-ual Fridays #16

Greetings friends!

We are a week and half away from the big move and counting… this week, I'm emptying out my office and packing up a few "special" items that will move on our own. The rest we're letting the movers deal with :)

Before I pack up the ol' craft room {sniff}, I was able to spend a little time in there this afternoon and make a little ditty for the newest CAS-ual Fridays challenge!

For this fun birthday card, I used two embossing techniques and a faux embossing technique :) I dry embossed the card base, heat embossed the white "sprinkles" on the cupcake and used faux embossing for the cupcake panel.

Faux embossing is one of my favorite techniques - it's basically die cuts placed on the same color card stock to give an embossed look.

I just wanted to share a couple of pics of the place to which we'll be moving in a week and a half. I'm originally from Atlantic Canada (lived there most of my life :)) and I'm so excited to be moving back to my old neck of the woods! We're moving to Prince Edward Island, Canada.

PEI is an island on the east coast of Canada.

See…the tiny little island circled in red :)

It's famous for very red soil...

Quaint, peaceful farming and fishing communities…

Sandy beaches with *relatively* warm waters (this is Canada after all LOL!)…

Potatoes and mussels…

The Confederation Bridge…

And perhaps, most famously, Anne of Green Gables

Thanks so much for taking the time to swing by!!! Hope you have a great start to the week!

Thinking of you

Hi all. Super quick post. I managed some speed card making time tonight for the latest CAS-ual Fridays Challenge.

I used my super-dy duper new Botanical Silhouettes stamp set (the 2011 PTI Anniversary Set)... LOVE!

I did something with this card that I rarely do - I tore the edges of the paper. Be still my symmetry-lovin', straight-edged heart :) Although I did sort of do it with the assistance of a ruler… I can't be too random now :) See the little clear dots? I added some drops of Glossy Accents for a little something different - kinda like dew drops…
Hope you are all having a fabulous week! Thanks so much for stopping by!

My Friend

I recently acquired Wildflower Garden from PTI. I was so excited for it to arrive. Yet, it sat in my craftroom, waiting for me to ink up those fabulous images. I know, sad isn't it… :)

Finally, I made some time to formally introduce my ink and cardstock to what I'm sure will be a new favorite set. I really wanted to play along with CAS-ual Fridays since I missed the last installment.

The challenge this week is to use color blocking. I haven't done this technique much at all… but I sure do love it :) I actually made a few cards using color blocking - some will not be seen until a later date *wink*

I saw this color combo used by a member of the PTI DT and I love it (I think kraft may have been thrown into the mix too). The flower silhouettes were stamped with versamark and clear embossed. The sentiment is from the 2011 PTI Anniversary Set. The ribbon is plain ol' white seam binding with a scarlet jewel button to finish it off. I really like how it turned out :)

Thanks so much for all your sweet comments regarding the blog makeover! I surely appreciate it :)

I had about 45 minutes to spare and an idea….

So I managed a card for a few challenges :)

And here's what I came up with;

I chose the Emboss-Felt-Twine part of the tic-tac-toe. The felt heart is layered and stitched. Then I formed a heart around the outside with twine. Almost tied it around normally but at the last second, decided to try and shape the twine. The base is embossed with text. What d'ya think?

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Andrea

Ingredients
Stamps - none :)
Paper - rustic white cardstock (PTI)
Ink - none
Other - royal velvet felt (PTI), Bakers twine (the twinery), text embossing plate (PTI), sewing machine

Congratulations {next year's} Graduate!

The theme of this week's CAS-ual Friday's Challenge is to make a graduation card. Well, I did just that. Only… it's for next year :) I'm fresh out of grads for this year so I'm getting a HUGE jump on the grad cards for next year!

I used PTI's By The Numbers dies to cut 2012 out of shiny copper DP. If you visit my blog, you know ow much I love stamping on vellum! The sentiment is from Inside Out: Baby (PTI). It's a bit hard to make out in the pic but I scored a border around the linen cardstock . I added a couple of black brads for a little extra somethin', somethin'. Clean and simple.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Pink is my new favorite color :)

Happy Monday :)

I made this card for the newest CAS-ual Fridays challenge. They're challenging us to bring on the bling :)

So wanna know why my favorite color is now pink?

'Cause I found this wrapped in my craftroom on Friday night!!!! My birthday is coming up and my hubby decided to give me my gift a little early… what a good man! Sorry for the quality of pic - I took it with my phone. I love my new toy - I use it all the time. For anyone interested, I'd be glad to plug the iPad and enable you if needed *wink*

So I decided to go pink with my card. I never used to be a pink gal, but it has really grown on me over the years. Especially since I was introduced to raspberry fizz. Oh yeah.

I stamped dot spot onto sweet blush in raspberry fizz ink. Then I added a few sparkly brads to the centers. See the little white dots? I bought enamel accents  a while back…

… and decided to give them a try. I like the way they look against the sweet blush cardstock.

I also made the celebrate card for another reason:) My birthday and blogiversary are right around the same time, so in honor of those occasions, I'll be offering up some blog candy on the ol' blogo soon. Check back in a few days :)

Thanks so much for stopping by!

The sun will come out...

For my JUGS post, please click HERE.

Are you singing yet?

I can't help myself. Even reading that line…the song comes a' belting out. It's just one of those tunes.

I've got a card to share for the next CAS-ual Fridays and Make it Mondays Challenges. The challenge at CAS-ual Fridays is to use buttons and twine while the MIM challenge is selective inking.

So, on to my card.

I wanted to make a bakers twine sun. To make my rays in varying lengths and make sure they are round, I used two nesties and alternated punching holes on either side. Hopefully you can see the holes in the picture below.

I die cut two clouds out of fun foam and inked them up with white pigment ink for the background (Thanks to Laurie for the inspiration!).  Then I cut a couple out of white cardstock for some dimension. For the MIM part of the card, I selectively inked "The sun will come out… Tomorrow" from Scattered Showers onto vellum.

Whadya think?!

CAS-ual Fridays Inaugural Challenge

Been waiting for the very first, brand-spanking-new CAS-ual Fridays challenge and I am so excited I got to play along!!! What a great challenge blog and what a super talented, inspiring DT!!! Congrats ladies on your inaugural challenge!

Yep, I sure am excited :)

The challenge is to use text prominently on the card.

I decided to go with a square card. I started by masking a circle on the card front. Then I stamped marigolds multiple times in versamark and heat embossed in white. Then I stamped text in brown ink. I used Marigold and Scattered straw distress inks  in the masked circle - oh yes, I am addicted to distress inks :)

The colors I based on a marigold I had colored a while back and figured this would be the perfect opportunity to use it! I forgot to take a pic of the Copic markers I used to color the marigold but they are Y13, Y35 (for the yellow tips), E08, YR14 (for the main part of the flower).

That's it :) I really like the way it turned out and wish I had colored enough marigolds to make a set… must remember to do this another time :)

Hope you all have a happy Monday (blech!!!!) :)

Thanks so much for stopping by!
