Just Us Girls #157: Sketch Challenge

Happy weekend to you all!

It's Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada and we're excited to spend some time with family, eating yumminess :) What are your plans for the weekend?

It's time for a new challenge over at JUGS; time to get sketchy.

Here's my take;

As fall is in full swing, I wanted to go with a rustic sort of color scheme. I did a few negative die cuts in orange card stock then stamped gingham in yellow underneath. The woodgrain dry embossing is one of my all time fabs and I just had to dig it out again. I love this rustic twine too and thought it would compliment the colors well. Pardon the pictures; I left my camera at work so these were taken with my handy dandy iPhone ;)

I hope you find time to play along! Make sure to swing by the JUGS blog to see what the lovely JUGheads have whipped up :)

Thanks so much for stopping by!

JUGS 104 - Sketch Challenge

Hello all!!! Happy weekend!

It's starting on a pretty great note for me - great news from friends and family AND I got into the craft room for the first time in a week. Woo Hoo!!!

The ever-so-lovely Kathryn is our hostess with the mostess over at Just Us Girls!  (ADDENDUM: Our guest designer Maureen whipped up this beauty of a sketch!!! I completely forgot when I typed up this post last night!!! Sorry Maureen!).  Not only that, but we'll hope you'll help us celebrate as this is the TWO YEAR JUGS ANNIVERSARY!!!! YAHOOO!!!!

I just had to go back to my good ol' leaf dies :) I used a leaf in place of the flower in the sketch (it's a bit lower than the position of the flower on the sketch but it'a all about interpretation :)).

I started out with some fabulous gingham paper from Die Cuts With A View. I used another fav, my woodgrain impression plate - *swoon*. I wanted to give my cute little leaf some texture - I thought about cutting it from felt, adding glitter or emboss it… then I figured I'd just crinkle it up.

I'd like to extend a huge welcome to the wonderful, sweet and SUPER talented Maureen Plut!!! We're so lucky to have Maureen on board for the month of October as a guest designer!!!! I'm super excited too 'cause she really is one of the nicest people EVAH and she is a fellow iPad enthusiast! WELCOME MAUREEN!!! I'm SOOOO excited you are joining us this month!

Let's see what the rest of the talented JUGS DT has whipped up for the 2 Year Anniversary sketch!!!

CR84FN #39

Time for another CR84FN color challenge!

I just want to take a moment to thank everyone for their thoughtful, supportive emails and comments during our big move. I can't tell you how much it means!!! Also, I wanted to apologize for not visiting blogs that often in recent weeks. With the first week of my new job under my belt, I'm hoping to establish a little rhythm and order to my life so I can get back to my crafty family :) I'll be back, hopping around in no time!

On to this week's fabulous colors!!!

The photos in the gorgeous inspiration graphic come from a couple of different sources;
- Wreath: Etsy
- Pops: BeauCoup

Fall is just around the corner and these colors are just the perfect inspiration to get your fall on!!!

I wanted to do a watercolor-type effect with leaves using watercolor paper (don't you love the texture?!) and distress inks. First, I spritzed the paper lightly with water. When I figured out that the spritzing made the paper a bit too wet (and thus too little detail and too much watercolor effect), I decided to try a wet paper towel laid over the watercolor paper for a few seconds. This gave it just the right amount of moisture for some detail in the leaves with a subtle watercolor look. I used the rock n' roll technique to ink up my leaves, using scattered straw first then spiced marmalade around the edges. Then I stitched a few cross stitches in the opposite corner for a little home-spun touch :)

Check out what the other wonderful DT members have up their super crafty sleeves;

Marie Oberg (our September guest designer)

Thanks so much for stopping by!
