Just Us Girls #174: Sketch Challenge

Wow. Over two weeks since I posted last...where does the time go?

I had aspirations of returning more to blogging in the new year.

Epic. Fail.

Well, I'll give myself a little break. Our new boy Parker (affectionately known as "Parker-pants", seen below) has been occupying more of my free time. In good ways, I might add. I've been outside more, despite the freezing cold, walking our lovely man. He has so much energy, I've also been arranging play dates with other friends who have dogs that can wear him down :) It's been a blast watching him play with other dogs - I've missed the "joie de vivre" that dogs have. Seeing him run and play is such a wonderful reminder - it really is the simple things in life.

Anywho, on to the newest Just Us Girls Challenge - a sketch hosted by our wonderful Vicki!

I took this beauty of a sketch and flipped it on it's side...

...and in the place of the ribbon tails, I placed my sentiment. The die cut is from my Silhouette Cameo - the floral circle was a Friday Freebie from A Little Hut. I just welded two rectangles to either side to create the band. I had a much more elaborate card planned (and started) but it just wasn't coming together. So back to basics I went.

I have to say, I really am loving the Cameo. It is versatile and pretty straightforward to use. Plus it works with my Mac seamlessly. Bonus.

Don't forget to swing by the JUGS blog to see what the other talented ladies have come up with! Their links are also in my sidebar.

So now on to pictures of "Parker-pants". Sadly, he didn't escape my nickname fetish...I always come up with some creative ones for my pets. Please feel free to skip this part if your pressed for time :)

Here he is playing with one of his most favourite friends, Quid (Parker's the golden retriever). These two just love each other and it's so fun to watch them play :)

Love this next picture - he loves to run :)

Here he's demonstrating his versatility...and by versatility I mean he goes from running like a madman to curling up on the couch. So darn cute though!

That's it from here. Hope your having a great weekend :)

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Just Us Girls #170

Happy new year my friends!

I'm hostessing over at Just Us Girls this week and I've got a sketch to hopefully tempt you. But before I move into the sketch, since I missed posting last week, I wanted to say a very sad farewell to my friend Lynn, who is stepping down from the JUGS DT :( All good things must come to an end but I'll be around checking in to see what beautiful things Lynn's whipped up! Here's wishing you all the best in your future endeavours - we'll miss you!

On another note, we also have exciting news to share. Please help me welcome the super talented Tangii Crain to our DT! We are so excited that you are joining our JUGS family Tangii!!! Welcome welcome! Can't wait to see what fabulous creations you have in store!

On to my sketch...

Here's my take...

I made the background with my new Cameo... man, do I love it! Once the holiday dust settles, I can't wait to get to using it more :) I took one of the free designs that came with the Cameo (moroccan flower) and copied it to create a pattern reflective of the sketch. I flipped the sketch on it's side then added my angled banner sentiment. Gosh, I love that machine so far. I was a bit nervous about taking the plunge and buying it (I bought a cricut several years ago and it's a great dust collector now) but so far, I am not one bit disappointed. Like anything, it has a learning curve but the software and the machine are pretty user-friendly. This card was done in minutes.

Just Us Girls #168

Hello there out in blogland! Happy holidays folks!

Back again with another fabulous Just Us Girls challenge! This time around, Vicki is our hostess and she has chosen a fabulous photo inspiration to challenge you.

Here's my take...

I wanted to create the look of fireworks so I used Dot Spots from Papertrey ink to make rudimentary fireworks. Make sure to swing by the Just Us Girls blog and check out what the other fabulous ladies have whipped up! Their links are in my sidebar too.

I've been swamped the past few weeks. But it's been a good kind of busy :) My in-laws are in town for the holidays and I'm driving three hours to pick my parents up for Christmas tomorrow. It'll be a full, happy house here over Christmas...and I wouldn't have it any other way :)

Speaking of family and full houses, my hubby and I have added to ours... this handsome fellow, Parker, joined our ranks this week. It was a sudden adoption but he's already made his mark. He's so energetic and sweet!!! We're smitten.

He's having sometime downtime for a few more days as he recently had his "jingle bells" removed :)

Clearly he's stressed in his new home - what a ham!

Many happy wishes from my home to yours this Christmas!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Just Us Girls #165

I just love this time of year. Christmas music, (mostly) happy folks, family, tradition...yes, it's fair to say I always will love Christmas.

Welcome back for a brand new Just Us Girls Challenge. I'm the hostess this week and I came up with this little sketch;

I didn't stamp a single thing this time - all die cuts and paper. No ink at all.

Hope you like my holiday card. Make sure to swing by the Just Us Girls blog and check out what the other fabulous ladies have whipped up! Their links are in my sidebar too.

Just Us Girls #163

Helloooo JUGS fans!

Our sweet Maria's got a fall-inspired color challenge this week over at Just Us Girls...

And here's my card...

Although my temptation was to do something with pumpkins, I went in a little different direction. I bought the Banner Builders set from PTI a while back (quite a while back) but have never used it...EVER. There it sat, uninked and unloved. I thought I would use it a ton when I purchased it, but I seem to be a bit stupefied by it - I want to use it but I have trouble coming up with concepts for it. Anywho, finally I had the chance to show it a little love.

Make sure to check out the JUGS blog to see what the other amazing ladies have put together!

Just Us Girls #160 - Photo inspiration

Hello all! It's Saturday - time for a new JUGS challenge. This week, Lisa has a BEAUTIFUL photo inspiration challenge for us all!

So many elements in this photo to sink your teeth into! The colors and fall theme caught my attention.

Pretty CAS...I know, something new and different for me LOL! I had seen a card a long time ago that had a tree on a dark background with a white circle behind the leaves so that's what I tried to recreate. It didn't turn out quite as I was hoping but I still like the end result :)

Happy fall y'all!

Just Us Girls #157: Sketch Challenge

Happy weekend to you all!

It's Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada and we're excited to spend some time with family, eating yumminess :) What are your plans for the weekend?

It's time for a new challenge over at JUGS; time to get sketchy.

Here's my take;

As fall is in full swing, I wanted to go with a rustic sort of color scheme. I did a few negative die cuts in orange card stock then stamped gingham in yellow underneath. The woodgrain dry embossing is one of my all time fabs and I just had to dig it out again. I love this rustic twine too and thought it would compliment the colors well. Pardon the pictures; I left my camera at work so these were taken with my handy dandy iPhone ;)

I hope you find time to play along! Make sure to swing by the JUGS blog to see what the lovely JUGheads have whipped up :)

Just Us Girls #156: Show us your digits!

The challenge over at JUGS this week is to make a project using numbers. So show us your digits!

Here's my take;

I don't often do asymmetric cards, it goes against my nature. I just had a hankering to go against the grain this week and get all asymmetric. Yep, I'm pretty wild... :D

I hope you find time to play along! Make sure to swing by the JUGS blog to see what the lovely JUGheads have whipped up :)

Just Us Girls #154: Rainbow Color Challenge

Well hello sports fans! Another spot of life arising from the blog here. Wow. Where does the time go? And quite the colorful burst of activity it is!

This week's JUGS challenge is a rainbow color challenge! So cheerful, wouldn't ya say?

Here's my rainbow...

I've made a card something similar to this one before and I've seen similar designs in blogland. When I saw the colour challenge, I just could't get it out of my head. Easy peasy but I love the pop of color.

I hope you find time to play along! Make sure to swing by the JUGS blog to see what the lovely JUGheads have whipped up :)

Hope the back to school frenzy is easing for you all. We don't have children but I lecture at a university so, boy, do I know how that all goes!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

JUGS #140: Acrylic distress technique

Technique time at Just Us Girls

Maria has picked out an amazing technique - acrylic distress. There's a wonderful tutorial HERE.

I haven't made many masculine cards lately and with Father's Day around the corner, this seemed like the perfect technique for a manly card. I embossed card stock with woodgrain then painted brown acrylic paint over top. After it dried, I sanded it down to expose the lighter color. I finished it off with a tree, oval and twine. What an awesome technique! Love the way it turned out :)

Make sure to swing by the JUGS blog to see what the rest of the DT and our amazing guest designer, Hannelie, have in store!

It's the weekend! That means time for another challenge over at Just Us Girls!

I'm hostessing this week and I've got a sketch that will hopefully tempt you to play along :)

I wanted to do a somewhat masculine birthday card - I'm not sure if the polka dots are masculine but at least the color scheme is :)

Hope you have a great weekend. Really hope you can play along!
