Coming up for air

Hey Bleeps!
It's been a few weeks of sparse creativity for me. And when I do sit down, the wheels turn slowly. But I know you've all experienced these moments as well :)
I've finally found some time to play along with a few challenges! Sadly, because of this past hectic week, I didn't get to play along with my fellow JUGSters *sniff* and I missed out on a great challenge. But I decided I would play along just the same. So the following card is for this weeks JUGS challenge, which is to make a 3D flower. Maria's posted an awesome Tim Holtz tutorial! I also used the colors from the Play Date Cafe (holy moly, I haven't played along at the Cafe in so long, it was really about time!). Finally, the sketch is from Card Patterns :)

For this attempt at the 3D flower, I messed up the middle :) But for a first try, I think it went well :) I sprayed the cardstock with purple Glimmer Mist so it has a nice shimmer in the right light. I stamped the horizontal black cardstock with a retro background and heat embossed. The vertical black cardstock is dry embossed. The sad thing is you really can't see either in the photo, darn it :). I'm not sure how to feel about this card... I love the flower but am not happy with how the rest turned out :( I hope I can get my mojo back soon....
So that's it! Thanks so much for all the sweet comments on my blog makeover!!!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Eat your veggies!

You may or may not have known this (it was news to me :)) but June is Fruit and Veggie Month. In honor of this, this week's challenge over at Pile It On is "Eat your veggies!".
After reading the intro and seeing my project, you may be wondering, "Hmmmm, I don't see any veggies?" :)
That's the beauty of this challenge - even if you don't own any fruit or veggie stamps ('cause I didn't) you can use veggie colors. So it's a pretty broad challenge - head on over and play along.
This week's challenge sponsor is  Simon Says Stamp! One lucky winner will receive a $20 gift certificate to spend in their store!!!

Photobucket

On to my card...

This card qualifies for the following challenges;
ColourQ - color challenge
Just Us Girls - dry embossing
Incy Wincy Designs - button up
Ooh La La Creations - bright and cheerful
The Pink Elephant - orange
Stampin for the Weekend - a card to cheer someone up

The top layer of white card stock was cut with PTI flower dies then dry embossed with swiss dots. The layer underneath was stamped in orange zest, spring moss and sky blue (Color box). The two layers are separated by dimensionals to give some depth. Easy, peasy :)

Hope everyone is enjoying their memorial day weekend! I've been cleaning and organizing today. Unfortunately, I've got work-related things to get done this weekend - not as much fun as I'd like...

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Papertrey May Blog Hop Challenge

Another PTI Bloghop - YAY!
The challenge this month was to use felt. I also made a template for the Just Us Girls Challenge this week.
Here is my project. The card is first up...I used true black PTI felt for the flower.

Next is the template. It's the All Boxed Up template by Lauren Meader (sold in the PTI store).

On the inside there's a note pad and a little pocket for whatever. I also put some of this awesome DP in a clear pen (Pentel) to match. Easy-peasy :)

Not the most overwhelming use of felt, but it's on there nonetheless :)
Hope you are enjoying the blog hop. I've got a few things to do before bed so I'll peruse the entries tomorrow - can't wait! So many inspiring projects I'm sure:)
Thanks so very much for stopping by!

Pocket card...something new

Hi ya!
It's rainy here today, and cool. Blech... Perfect crafting weather though :)
The challenge over at Just Us Girls this week is to create a pocket card. I'm not sure how I hadn't made one before today - so much fun! The colors used are from the most recent Play Date Cafe challenge. Love those too - I'm on a roll with true black. This is my third out of my last four in which I've used that card stock. I've always been partial to earth tones, but since card making has entered my life, I've definitely branched out color-wise.

Here's the assembled piece... I'm loving Delightful Dahlia lately. I can't stop using it. By the way, all the materials mentioned will be from Papertrey Ink unless otherwise specified :)

The base is true black, the white card stock was stamped with Background Basics-Text style in sweet blush ink. I masked out a few dahlias then went back and stamped the dahlias in silver Colorbox pigment ink.

The sentiment is also from Delightful Dahlia. See the new border punch? It's from EK Success (Bracket punch) and what you can't see from the picture is that it also embosses! Love it :)

The other detail hard to see in the pictures is the dry embossing on the tab of the insert and under the sentiment (Cuttlebug damask folder) which has been brush with silver pigment ink.

I masked out the center of the insert and went back to my Text Style background set, which was again stamped in sweet blush ink. I was on a masking kick! The large main dahlia was stamped on sweet blush card stock and embossed with silver embossing powder. I then took R20 (Copic marker) to give it a little dimension.

That's all folks! Thanks so much for stopping by!

Sweet peas

*** I had a question about how I colored the image. I used Copic markers - they are alcohol based markers that can be blended together as you color.  While there are others methods to color your stamped images (such as other alcohol markers, colored pencils, watercolor markers and pencils, aquapainters, pastels, chalks, etc....), Copics are my fav! I started with the darkest color of a group of 3 similar colors that matched my melon berry card stock and shaded the outer portions of the petals, then blended toward the center, using the lighter tones as I went. On the leaves, I put the darkest color in the center or where I thought there would be the most shadow, then blended with a lighter color. Thanks for asking!***

Whew! This was a toughie for me - when I saw the most recent Colour Q challenge, I thought I'd be able to come up with something. But I STRUGGLED :) The colors are wonderful but for some reason, I had a hard time putting them together the way I had envisioned. I think it turned out ok in the end - still not quite what I was looking for - ah well.
This week's Just Us Girls Challenge is a sketch hosted by Maria - it is a fantastic sketch :)

I had seen someone on another blog (I totally forget who, darn it) stamp floral images in white on white then color them. It looked so cool. Mine isn't quite as impressive - I think if I'd used some bright pinks or maybe the burgundy... will have to try that next time.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

JUGs Challenge

Night all!
I've been running for days now (at least that what it feels like) but I desperately wanted to get something done for the Just Us Girls Challenge this week. It is a template challenge, hosted by Mona.  It also fits for the newest Play Date Cafe Challenge (colors also chosen by Mona :)).  The template I chose was created by Lauren Meader and is called All Boxed Up.

I just received the new Papertrey Ink anniversary set and couldn't wait to ink it up. This was a FAST project but I like the way it turned out. I plan on making a gift card set to put in there as a gift for a friend.
Tomorrow is Friday! I'm so excited for the weekend. No specific plans - just relaxing :) Thanks so much for stopping by!

JUGS Color Challenge

Howdy folks!
Quick card to share for the Just Us Girls Challenge

Aren't all those buttons so yummy? Love the spring colors chosen by Maria for the JUGs challenge. So happy and fresh :) There was a twist on this week's challenge - make it a Birthday card in honor of Lisa's birthday - Happy Birthday Lisa! I did make it a birthday card (while it may not seem so on first glance) - on the inside is a verse from Birthday Basics; I just wanted a slightly different sentiment on the outside than the traditional "happy birthday".
Have a great evening and, as always, thanks so much for stopping by!

Behind the 8-ball

Evening folks!
I'm a day late and a dollar short (well, maybe not a dollar short but definitely a day late). I had planned to submit today's card for the most recent Play Date Cafe challenge but, alas, I didn't quite get it finished in time. It is in time for the Just Us Girls sketch challenge though, so I'm not completely behind :) It's the little victories that keep me going... :)

That sketch was so much fun and definitely one I'll use again.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Egg Hunt!

Quick post tonight. I've got a few other things I need to get done before hitting the hay.... can't wait to get in my bed!
My card tonight is for Just Us Girls - it's a color challenge this week hosted by Lisa. Spring is in the air, my friends!

I love the image in the inspiration photo! Wish I had a similar one I could color :)
The card design is pretty simple. The sentiment "egg hunt" comes from Papertrey Ink's Egg Hunt stamp set and I was ecstatic when I saw it (yes folks, it's those little things that keep me happy :)). It just reminds me of Easter egg hunts when I was a kid - it was so much fun! The background plaid is stamped (Faux ribbon, PTI). I've seen a few people stamp similar plaid backgrounds recentlyand I HAD to try it. I had only stamped striped backgrounds before, but the plaid really looks great :). The eggs are from PTI's Egg Hunt and are cut with their egg die. The kraft is stamped with a background set from PTI called Background Basics-Tin Types. It was a fun card to make; lots of stamping.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Take two...

I making up for lost stamping time :) Three cards in three nights... oh yeah! Nothing like working the wandering mojo into submission - if it won't come to me, I'll go to it!
After browsing a few blogs leading up to the Papertrey Ink release, I saw a really inspirational project on Debbie Olsen's blog, Thinking Inking. I REALLY love her style and the gal is a wonder with copics! Also, I loved what Nichole Heady did with vellum on this card. Talk about CAS and gorgeous :) With these projects in mind, I decided to give the JUGs challenge another go. I love the flap card!
This card fits the following challenges;
Just Us Girls - technique challenge (flap card)
Creative Card Crew - going dotty
Gingersnap creations - birthday greetings

The flowers are stamped in ocean tides (PTI) on vellum, which was then adhered to white cardstock. I really love how it softens the image. I colored the flowers with copics (BG72, BG75). I decided to give the velcro closure another try - this time I trimmed the fuzzier side with scissors in an attempt to reduce the bulkiness. It seemed to work out ok. Boy do I love my EK Success scalloped border punches - the big scallops are fantastic. The buttons on the scallops - another Debbie Olsen special :)
I really love this look and I think I may make a set of cards as a gift in various colors.
Well that's it for now :) Thanks so much for stopping by!
