Mom's Birthday Card

Evening all!
Thought I would use the color inspiration for the latest Play Date Cafe Challenge to make a card for my Mom's upcoming birthday. I used this week's  Crazy 4 Challenges sketch for inspiration.
I wanted to use the fantastic DP from Basic Grey (Wassail Sleigh Ride) - it looks like toile and the color is perfect for the challenge.

The red, scalloped cardstock was stamped in text with Spring rain for a subtle look, however, it didn't translate in the photo... boo.... Looks much better IRL. The flower is made of tissue paper that was inked with colorbox pigment ink.

This card also applies for the following challenges;
Gingersnap Creations - Celebrate
La La Land Crafts Challenge - Make your own flowers
Penny's Paper-Crafty Challenge - Another birthday challenge
Crafty Ann's Challenge - Make something for someone special
Crafty Calendar Challenge - Flower power

I'll be back tomorrow night with another card, this time for the latest PIO challenge, among others :) Thanks so much for stopping by!

Egg Hunt!

Quick post tonight. I've got a few other things I need to get done before hitting the hay.... can't wait to get in my bed!
My card tonight is for Just Us Girls - it's a color challenge this week hosted by Lisa. Spring is in the air, my friends!

I love the image in the inspiration photo! Wish I had a similar one I could color :)
The card design is pretty simple. The sentiment "egg hunt" comes from Papertrey Ink's Egg Hunt stamp set and I was ecstatic when I saw it (yes folks, it's those little things that keep me happy :)). It just reminds me of Easter egg hunts when I was a kid - it was so much fun! The background plaid is stamped (Faux ribbon, PTI). I've seen a few people stamp similar plaid backgrounds recentlyand I HAD to try it. I had only stamped striped backgrounds before, but the plaid really looks great :). The eggs are from PTI's Egg Hunt and are cut with their egg die. The kraft is stamped with a background set from PTI called Background Basics-Tin Types. It was a fun card to make; lots of stamping.
Thanks so much for stopping by!

A new look

I got a little restless today and chose a new template for my blog. I really like the simplicity of the other one but you know how it goes; sometimes you just need a little change :) I must have been in a mood as we also rearranged the furniture in our living room too... hummm....
I've got a card for the latest Play Date Cafe Challenge. It's a gorgeous color combo supplied by Mona.

Isn't that photo gorgeous? Cherry blossoms are a sure sign of spring and it just makes me smile :) And it was the inspiration I took for my card. I used Out on a Limb (PTI); I inked up the blossoms first with Sweet Blush ink then I used the "rock and roll technique" to ink up the edges of the blossoms with Hibiscus Burst. I was really happy with the effect. The edges of the image were sponged with parchment colorbox pigment ink. The DP is from Basic Grey's porcelain collection.
well that's all. Off to get things together and make lunch for work tomorrow.
Have a great evening! Thanks so much for stopping by - it really does mean so much!

Take two...

I making up for lost stamping time :) Three cards in three nights... oh yeah! Nothing like working the wandering mojo into submission - if it won't come to me, I'll go to it!
After browsing a few blogs leading up to the Papertrey Ink release, I saw a really inspirational project on Debbie Olsen's blog, Thinking Inking. I REALLY love her style and the gal is a wonder with copics! Also, I loved what Nichole Heady did with vellum on this card. Talk about CAS and gorgeous :) With these projects in mind, I decided to give the JUGs challenge another go. I love the flap card!
This card fits the following challenges;
Just Us Girls - technique challenge (flap card)
Creative Card Crew - going dotty
Gingersnap creations - birthday greetings

The flowers are stamped in ocean tides (PTI) on vellum, which was then adhered to white cardstock. I really love how it softens the image. I colored the flowers with copics (BG72, BG75). I decided to give the velcro closure another try - this time I trimmed the fuzzier side with scissors in an attempt to reduce the bulkiness. It seemed to work out ok. Boy do I love my EK Success scalloped border punches - the big scallops are fantastic. The buttons on the scallops - another Debbie Olsen special :)
I really love this look and I think I may make a set of cards as a gift in various colors.
Well that's it for now :) Thanks so much for stopping by!

Spring wishes...

Good evening!
I've got another card to share tonight; it's spring-y with a pastel color scheme. The colors are actually based on the current Play Date Cafe challenge and also qualifies for the current Pile It On challenge (use pastels).
The main image is from Phindy's Place. Such an adorable spring/Easter image :) I colored it with my copics - can I tell you how much I love them? They are SOOOO much fun. I'm not sure how I got along without them before.... love, love, love 'em. Sorry, hope I haven't weirded many of you out... still with me? Ok, moving on...
I ruffled the ribbon by using a technique I first saw on Poppy Paperie - pull the string in the saddle stitch ribbon from one side of the ribbon to gather the ribbon. Then I just did the same thing with the other string. Man, why didn't I take a pic to help illustrate my point? Woulda, shoulda, coulda...
The remaining ingredients are listed below.

This card also qualifies for these challenges;
Play Date Cafe - color challenge
Pile It On - pastels
Secret Crafter - anything goes
Rosie D's - think spring
La la land Crafts - pastels
By the Cute and Girly - spring is in air
Ooh La la Creations - anything goes
Bee Crafty - Spring and digi
Papercutz - anything goes
Tanda Samps - simply spring

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Look who's new

 Happy Sunday folks! It's raining and cool here but we managed to take the doggies out for a walk this morning. The exuberant excitement at the very mention of the word "walk" - they're so darn easy to please :)
My best friend is due in May with baby boy number 3 - how exciting! So as a gift, I asked if I could make her new arrival announcements :D I'm putting together a few samples she can pick from and, in the process, I decided I'd make a project for this week's JUGs challenge. We were given a technique challenge - make a flap card. My mojo is on hiatus... it took me a while to make this fairly simple card... not a good sign :)
Here's what I came up with;
I got a bit carried away with this one and it won't be the easiest thing to mail. So I'll have to rework it for my friends purposes (and for mass production) but the flap card seems like a perfect design perfect for a new baby announcement. There's room inside for a picture of the beautiful new bundle as well as all the pertinent info.
The image and sentiment are from Baby Button Bits (PTI) - love that snail! I kept it fairly clean and simple as it was going to be for a boy (no ribbon at her hubby's request :)) and she requested green and brown as a possible color combo. The colors are (all PTI) spring moss, ocean tides, kraft and dark chocolate. I stamped a polka dot background in chamomile ink - it turned out more subtle than the versamark stamped background on the bottom card. To add a little more detail, I hand stitched the main image and the background paper. The closure is simply thread wrapped around an ocean tides button that is popped up on a dimensional.
I made another version of this card with the same colors; I just diamond glazed the snail shell for a slightly different look.
I looked around for magnetic closures (like were shown in the tutorial) but with no luck - the card above uses Velcro. Although you can't really see it, the Velcro is a bit too thick and causes a bit too much of a gap for my liking :(
Off to work on a few things for work tomorrow...ugh. Oh yeah, tonight's the Papertrey Ink release party!!! See HERE for details. Definitely going to be done in time for that!
Thanks so much for stopping by! I'll have another project for the Play Date Cafe tomorrow.
TTFN,

Whew!

It's been a whirlwind of a few months but now things are returning to a more normal schedule. As much fun as things have been I'm looking forward to a routine :)
I finally get to participate in this week's JUGs challenge which is a sketch this week.
Here's my card;

It was a fast assembly but I REALLY wanted to get a card done for JUGs this week. I really miss participating in challenges regularly. Yep, I'm an addict - any paper crafter 12 step programs?I see I missed the scalloped border along the side of the card - oops. That's what I get for being in a hurry... The stamp set is through the trees from PTI. The card stock is dark chocolate, vintage cream and craft (also from PTI).
Thanks so much for stopping by!

Time to Pile it On!

Home again! Just arrived home from my three week stint in Canada and I had a BLAST! Can't remember the last time I had that much fun working :) It is good to be home though and now I can get back into my paper crafting - YAY!
Here's my sample for this week's Pile It On challenge - neutral plus one other color.
I love this color combo. Brown and pink as well as brown and turquoise/teal....  They just make me feel warm all over - so cosy.
This color combo fills the requirement for the latest Pile It On challenge - The one you must - which is to use a neutral and one other color. I chose brown as my neutral and pink as my other color.

I love the DP - problem is I forgot to note it before I left for Canada so now I forget :( Anyone know? The background of the paper is white, I’m counting it as a non-color for the purposes of the challenge. Ignorance IS bliss :) Just kidding…. The base is dark chocolate cardstock, then a layer of sweet blush then the DP. The sentiment “Wish Big”  is stamped on a strip of sweet blush cardstock in Colorbox pigment ink and the bottom sentiment stamped in dark chocolate hybrid ink. A scallop punched (EK Success) layer of dark chocolate is layered beneath the sentiment layer. Two dark chocolate buttons finish ‘er off.
Here are the challenges that it fits;

Pile It On - Neutral plus one color
Lexi's Creations - Anything goes
Practical Scrappers - use chalks or inks
Creative Card Crew - celebration
Papertake Weekly Challenge - Buttons, bows, brads and bling
Gingersnap Creations - celebration
Quixotic Challenges - use leaves on a project

Hope you’re all having a super weekend. Have fun with the challenge and I can’t wait to see everyone’s creations! If your new to Pile It On, head on over there and check it out :)
Thanks so much for stopping by!
